William S. Willingham

William S. Willingham

Savannah-   William Shelverton Willingham, Sr., age 85, passed away on June 27, 2016, at Hospice Savannah.  He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 18, 1930, to Harry Eugene and Grace Willingham.  He graduated from Florida Military Academy in 1949 and joined the U.S Army, serving as Staff Sergeant in Fort Jackson, S.C. In 1951, he married MarCelene Cumming and they began their married life in Savannah, Georgia.  He spent his working career in sales, the last 28 years before retirement as a moving consultant.  He was an active member of St John's Episcopal Church. Bill was a kind and loving father and grandfather and he will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. He loved working in his yard and always kept a beautiful lawn.  Bill was a master wood craftsman who built many structures and decorative items.  His family, friends, and church all received the benefits of this God-given talent and he passed it along to his children and grandchildren.      He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Harry Eugene Willingham, and his sister, Peggy Wetherington.  He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, MarCelene Willingham; his sons, William Shelverton Willingham, Jr. (Gwen) of Marianna, Florida, and Britt Charles Willingham of Savannah; four grandchildren, Lee Willingham (Leigh) of Gulf Breeze, FL, Britt Dallas Willingham of Atlanta, GA, Lindsey Elizabeth Willingham of Atlanta, and Britt Charles Willlingham, Jr. of Charleston, SC; one great granddaughter, Harbor Emily Willingham of Gulf Breeze, FL; several nieces and nephews; and his special four-legged buddy, Paco.     Visitation will be held at Wednesday, June 29, 5-7 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.  Graveside burial services will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on Thursday, June 30 at 2:00 p.m., with Father Craig O'Brien presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Savannah, PO Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416 or the Humane Society for Greater Savannah, 7215 Sallie Mood Dr., Savannah, GA 31406.
